During the Flemish Ports Debate, organised by trade magazine Flows, Marc Adriansens was presented with the title ‘Maritime and Logistics Figure of the Year 2024’. The award, which has been presented annually since 1972, is a nice recognition for his years of commitment to the sector.

A well-deserved recognition

Marc Adriansens was at the helm of International Car Operators (ICO) as managing director from 1984 to April 2024. Under his leadership, ICO grew to become the largest car handler in the world. It continues to handle more than two million vehicles annually through its terminals in Zeebrugge and Antwerp. The focus was on both deep-sea and short-sea RoRo, from passenger cars to professional vehicles and project cargo.

Since April 2024, Marc has remained closely associated with ICO as chairman of the board of directors. His vision and strategic leadership have laid the foundation for the sustainable and innovative direction ICO is taking today.

Strong competition

The jury, led by Prof Theo Notteboom, had a list of strong candidates from the maritime and logistics sector. Marc was praised for his progressive approach in logistics and sustainability. His role in the electrification of port processes and the realisation of carbon neutral terminals made ICO a leading example in the sector.

The strength of our sector lies in cooperation, innovation and dedication. Only by building a sustainable, competitive and socially responsible future together can we make our ports stronger for tomorrow's challenges.

A glimpse of the future

This award recognises not only Adriansens' work, but also the strategic importance of sustainable and innovative solutions within the logistics chain. As ICO, we are proud that Marc, together with our team, helped set the standard for the sector.

Congratulations, Marc, on this well-deserved recognition!
